Project brief
Location: Stockwell
This London terrace home’s conservatory was an uninviting space, used mostly for storage. The clients hired us to work on their kitchen, utility, and this part of the house. It needed to be brought back to life, transforming it into a functional yet inviting dining space where they could enjoy family meals and take breaks from work while appreciating the garden view.
Goals: Revitalise the conservatory to accommodate all pantry and household cleaning machines and products. Develop a discreet yet effective laundry drying solution. Create a calming space with hidden storage, and add an effective heating system for the winter months. Make this space inviting so it can be used daily rather than being forgotten.
Practical requirement: Accommodate seating for 6 people, incorporate a utility area for laundry and household storage, and retain the space’s dual purpose as a pantry.
Design: We designed a dining room that serves multiple functions while still feeling warm and welcoming. The room now includes a dining table that comfortably seats 6 people, with additional seating provided by a window seat where they can pause during the day, soaking in the view with a cup of tea. We also created space for a cosy armchair—perfect for the clients’ love of reading. To balance the practical side of the room with its floor-to-ceiling storage, we introduced a modern-traditional mix that reflects the clients’ taste for colour and classic London charm. We included smart radiator solutions under the seat for the colder months and hid appliances and socket points for a smarter finish. The result is a space where functionality meets style, offering a beautiful and serene environment for dining, reading, chores, and simply enjoying the view. This space, which was hardly used in their daily lives for the last decade, has become a true part of their home life.
