Project brief

Location: Bickley, Bromley

This detached house in Bromley has a generous living room. The new homeowners hired us as soon as they moved in to create a formal yet warm and inviting space with a neutral palette. They wished for the room to feel cosy and comfortable, integrating the small fireplace into the design as a focal point.

Goals: Transform the spacious living room into a formal space to hosting guests. Bring neutral tones and warmth to the room by creating a timeless look. Avoid vivid colours while making the room inviting and comfortable. Ensure the small fireplace is made proportionate and becomes a feature of the room. Ensure the TV doesn’t become the most obvious element of the room.

Practical requirements: Create enough seating for hosting family and friends. Incorporate hidden storage and achieve a visual impact with the design. Make the room child-friendly. Propose furniture, rugs, lighting, and window dressings that align with the modern, neutral, and homely style the clients love.

Design: We embraced a neutral palette to maintain the room’s elegance while adding warmth through carefully selected textures and furnishings. The custom cabinetry features a rounded design, balancing the room’s rectangular dimensions and adding a touch of softness and plenty of hidden storage. We also ensured there’s storage within the coffee tables with easy access. The fireplace was enhanced with a new mantelpiece to become a focal point. We designed ample seating for entertaining and quiet moments, complemented by modern furniture, rugs, and lighting. Appropriate window dressings were chosen to maximise sunlight and enhance the overall design. The result is a sophisticated living room that feels both grand and homely, perfect for making lasting memories.
