Project brief

Location: Bickley, Bromley.

The dining room of this detached house in Bromley had become tired and soulless over the years. It was used as a studio space but hardly as a room for hosting dinner parties. The clients wanted to give this room a new lease of life where they could have family meals, entertain guests, and use it as their music room occasionally.

Goal: Design and bring to life this dining space so it feels welcoming and cohesive with the living room. Encorporate the large collectable art piece into the design for this room to resonate with the family’s style. Revamp the fireplace so this becomes a focal point. Keep the space light and airy while ensuring it is timeless and stylish.

Practical requirement:  Create a practical room with seating for 6 and an expandable dining table to host up to 10 people on special occasions. Create space for the beloved piano and some storage for crockery. If possible, have an armchair for quiet mornings. Find a solution for the internet router to become decreet. Design additional lighting that can be used to set the mood.

Design: We transformed this dining room into a stylish and modern space without losing the essence of the property. We took onboard the clients’ love for wood and bright spaces to design a room that’s unique to them and their needs. Although the room works as one, there are 3 purposes to this. This room can be used for music practice, to catch a quiet moment by the window relaxing on the armchair, and for daily meal times with the family. Given that all the walls have a practical need, we utilised the ceiling to create an interest and elevate the eyes, making the whole room a treat to the eyes. This room has now been reclaimed and our clients are entertaining more than ever.
