Project brief
Location: Bickley, Bromley
This detached house in Bickley hadn’t been updated since the clients moved into their newly built home 12 years ago. Over time, the space lost its welcoming feel and no longer reflected the clients’ style. Spending much of their time in this room, both day and evening, they needed it to be more inviting, cohesive, and aligned with their personal tastes.
Goals: Revamp the living room with a balanced injection of colour, ensuring it feels cosy, comfortable, and dog-friendly. Create a relaxing ambiance for the evenings with comfortable and large sofas. Replace the existing fireplace with a wood burner and update the curtains to modern options that allow more natural light.
Practical requirements: Establish a layout that maximizes natural light and creates a cohesive, stylish space. Balance the colour preferences of both husband and wife, through the sofas and accessories to while keeping other elements neutral. Integrate hidden storage for everyday items and ensure there are ample surfaces for placing mugs and glasses.
Design: We carefully planned the layout to optimise the room’s natural light and create a harmonious flow. To satisfy the couple’s individual style preferences, we balanced their desired colours by incorporating them into the two sofas and accessories, while keeping the rest of the room neutral. The new wood burner replaced the old fireplace, adding warmth and character to the space. We proposed they have shutters on their windows to enhance natural light without obstructing the view. The result is an elegant and inviting living room that truly reflects the personality of its owners. It’s now somewhere they can spend hours in and feel revitalised.
